What CounterRent does
When a renter gets a lease renewal with a rent increase, CounterRent shows what the increase costs over a year and compares the renewal with comparable rentals near their address. The market check is free. If the evidence supports pushing back, the $49 negotiation gives them a recommended counteroffer, a target range, the strongest comparable listings and a message to send their landlord, then helps with each reply.
It is not a law firm and does not give legal advice. It never contacts the landlord, and it does not promise any outcome. Its job is to help renters see whether the market supports a counter and to go into the conversation with evidence.
Why it fits renter audiences
- A moment everyone recognizes. Almost every renter gets a renewal notice, and many are unsure whether to push back.
- A free first step. Your audience can check their own renewal without paying or creating an account, so recommending it does not ask anyone to buy blind.
- Clear value at a clear price. One $49 purchase for one renewal, with no subscription to cancel.
- Evergreen timing. Leases renew every month of the year, so a video about rent increases keeps being relevant.
How affiliate earnings work
- You share your personal referral link, or your referral code.
- A renter clicks your link, or enters your code at checkout, and runs the free market check on their renewal.
- If their case qualifies and they buy the $49 negotiation within 30 days, in the same browser, the purchase is attributed to you.
- You earn $24.50 for that completed purchase. If it is later refunded, the commission is reversed.
The affiliate earnings calculator lets you model hypothetical results from your own reach and an assumed conversion rate.
How attribution works
- Your link looks like
counterrent.com/?ref=yourname. It works on any CounterRent page. - Your referral code is the same word,
yourname. A renter who heard it in a video can enter it under “Have a referral code?” before paying, and the purchase is credited to you just as if they had clicked your link. It is not a discount code: the price stays $49. - A click sets a cookie in the renter's browser for 30 days. Purchases are attributed in that browser, so a renter who clicks on their phone and buys on a laptop may not be credited unless they also enter your code before paying.
- If the renter later clicks another creator's CounterRent link, the most recent link gets the credit.
- Each purchase earns one commission, recorded at the rate in your agreement at the time of the purchase.
Payouts
Commissions are paid manually. When you are approved, we confirm the payout method and timing with you in writing. We track clicks, free checks started and completed purchases for your link, and can share your numbers with you.
Who it is for
- renter and apartment creators: tours, hunting, moving, decorating;
- personal finance creators who cover rent, budgeting or housing costs;
- real estate and housing creators whose audience includes renters;
- bloggers and newsletter writers covering renting, cities or money;

Content angles that work
- “My landlord raised my rent. Here is how I checked whether it matched the market.”
- Walking through the yearly cost of a typical renewal increase.
- “Before you sign your renewal, do this”: a short checklist with the free check as one step.
- Renew or move: comparing the cost of staying with the real cost of a move.
- Reading a renewal notice: rent, fees, deadline, lease length.
What not to claim
Recommendations work when they are accurate. Please do not say or imply that CounterRent:
- guarantees a lower rent or any amount of savings;
- provides legal advice or tells renters their landlord is breaking the law;
- negotiates on the renter's behalf or contacts their landlord;
- works for every renewal: some renewals are already in line with the market.
